Relay places 3rd, Stone 4th at state meet | Track

A third-place finish in school-record time in the 4x200 relay highlighted the Coupeville High School track team's efforts on the final day of the 1A state meet at Eastern Washington University in Cheney Saturday, May 30.

A third-place finish in school-record time in the 4×200 relay highlighted the Coupeville High School track team’s efforts on the final day of the 1A state meet at Eastern Washington University in Cheney Saturday, May 30.

In addition to the relay team’s fine performance, Makana Stone placed fourth in the 400 meters to help Coupeville score 11 team points and finish 23rd out of the 42 schools that scored.

Stone, Marisa Etzell, Sylvia Hurlburt and Lauren Grove broke the school record they set a day earlier in the preliminaries with a 1:46.64. Meridian won the event in 1:45.95

Stone ran fourth in the 400 in 59.01; she finished second in the event last year. Northwest’s Maya Jackson, who topped Stone for the title in 2014, won again this spring in 57.37.
