“Know of any local heroes? The American Red Cross, Island County Chapter is looking for ordinary people who have demonstrated extraordinary courage, kindness, or unselfish character. Red Cross will honor the island’s heroes at the third annual Heroes Breakfast awards ceremony Dec. 5.Nominate special heros for consideration by Oct. 31. Information and nomination forms are available by calling 360-257-2096. A committee of community leaders will review all nominations and select one winner in each category. Award categories include animal rescue (person who saved an animal or an animal who saved a person); educator; firefighter; Good Samaritan (adult 21 and older and youth under 21); medical personnel; military; nature rescue (water, mountain or other outdoor rescue); police officer; 911 dispatcher. Nominators should describe the heroic act as clearly and in as much detail as possible, adding more pages if necessary and including any reports, news articles, names of witnesses, and other verifying information, as well as their own name, address and phone number.Nominees must be residents of Island County or employed in Island County (includes military personnel stationed elsewhere) and have performed the act of heroism between Nov. 1 of last year and Oct. 31 of this year.—————–Wal-Mart heroThe American Red Cross, Island County Chapter would like to contact the unnamed student who in early September helped a lady in Wal-Mart who was choking.
