Reception on Saturday for civility photo contest winners

At 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Coupeville Library, there will be a reception for the winners of the “Capturing a Moment of Civility in Your Community” art and photography contest.

Mayor Molly Hughes will distribute cash prizes to the winners. Harp music will be provided by Claudia Walker and refreshments will be served.

The exhibit will hang in all the Sno-Isle Libraries before traveling to civic and church galleries in Island County.

Winner Hannah Samuels said her piece is intended to “show a simple, kind gesture you would do for someone else in your everyday life.”

“It’s a simple idea, but it’s really important to remember,” she said.

“My piece is depicting a young man, probably in his late 20s, running to the finish line of a marathon with an elderly man,” winner Sharon Sone said.

“Both of them run across the line with sweat cascading down their faces yet they have huge smiles plastered on them too.”

“Civility can be defined as the act of showing regard for others by being polite or courteous,” she said.
