Our property assessment for the year 2006 increased 45.9 percent. This increase will be reflected in the next property tax bill. Are we to expect these outrageous increases every three years until we are forced to sell our home where we expected to live out our lives?
The taxpayers of Island County should now be concerned with how the county spends the taxes generated from this significant increase. There is also a huge increase in building which is generating substantial new taxes. Does Island County need all of this revenue to keep operating? It may be time for another initiative to control spiraling property taxes and government spending.
