Prisoner faces more sex charges

A 36-year-old former Oak Harbor man who is serving a prison term for the sexual exploitation of a minor has been charged with more counts related to the sexual assault of the same victim, according to court records.

Prosecutors charged the man, currently incarcerated at the Monroe Correctional Center, in Island County Superior Court Feb. 19 with rape of a child in the first degree, rape of a child in the second degree, two counts of child molestation in the first degree, child molestation in the second degree and intimidating a witness.

He pleaded not guilty March 3.

The News-Times is not publishing the name of the former Navy man in order to protect the identity of the victim.

The man is accused of raping and molesting the boy from 2002 to 2006, beginning when the child was just 10 years old, according to a report by Detective Sue Quandt with the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy’s mother discovered photos on her husband’s computer that appeared to show the man having sexual contact with her son. Detectives investigated and also found video files on the computer that appear to show the man and boy engaging in sexual activity, Quandt wrote.

The boy claimed that the man threatened to post the pictures of them having sex on the Internet if he told anyone, the report states.
