Wildcat softball beats Burlington-Edison

Under the direction of new head softball coach Jessica Weilke, Oak Harbor got off to a great start defeating Burlington-Edison 3-2 in the first non-league game of the season Monday afternoon. The victory was the first win for the Wildcats since March 20, 2008, when they beat Arlington 9-8.

Senior outfielder Kim Mowbray reached base every time she came to the plate, going 3-for-3 and drawing a pair of walks. She collected a double in the game and drove in one of the Wildcat runs.

Pitcher Kayla Ratliff went the distance on the mound to pick up the victory, striking out seven. She also had a double and an RBI.

Junior catcher Nicole Mowbray had a pair of hits and a stolen base, and junior centerfielder Emily Meagher drove in the other Oak Harbor run.

Oak Harbor fourth at Whidbey Shootout

On a windy Monday afternoon at Whidbey Golf and Country Club, the Oak Harbor High School golf team finished in fourth place at the eight-team Whidbey Shootout.

The Wildcats had a combined team score of 545 strokes.

Redmond was the winner with 471 strokes, followed by Marysville-Pilchuck (534) and Monroe (542).

Kara Zitman from Redmond earned medalist honors shooting an even par 73.

Ashley Johnson had the low score for Oak Harbor, shooting a 103.
