Police investigate Oak Harbor shooting

Oak Harbor police are continuing to investigate a shooting that sent a man to the emergency room.

Oak Harbor police are continuing to investigate a shooting that sent a man to the emergency room in the early morning hours of March 9.

Capt. Tony Slowik with the Oak Harbor Police Department explained that ER staff at Island Hospital in Anacortes reported at about 4:40 a.m. that a man arrived at the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was treated and released the same day.

No one has been arrested in the shooting, Slowik said, but five people were detained for questioning. Four of the people had outstanding warrants and were sent to jails in the respective jurisdictions. Slowik said investigators believe they have identified the majority, but perhaps not all, of those involved in the incident.

Police initially received information that the shooting occurred somewhere on North Whidbey. Deputies with the Island County Sheriff’s Office started investigating with assistance from the Oak Harbor and Anacortes police. The sleuthing, however, led police to determine that the shooting occurred at an apartment complex on the 100 block of Southeast Barrington Drive.

Oak Harbor detectives are now investigating the case. A search warrant was served on an apartment Thursday. Police are continuing to interview witnesses and are reviewing video surveillance to identify all parties involved, according to Slowik.

“Based on the facts known to detectives, it is believed that this is an isolated incident and there is no known danger to the community,” the police reported.
