A pedestrian died from injuries after getting hit by a car when he tried to cross Highway 20 in Central Whidbey July 6, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Jacob H. Weigert, a 23-year-old Everett resident, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, the State Patrol reported.

Weigert ran across the highway toward a bus stop at about 9 a.m., the State Patrol reported. He was struck by a southbound 2000 Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 60-year-old Coupeville man.

The director of Ryan’s House for Youth said Weigert had been staying at the facility that provides housing for young people. He was on his way to work and was crossing the highway to go to the bus stop when he was struck.

The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The car sustained reportable damage.

The State Patrol reported that the cause of the crash was a “pedestrian in the roadway.”
