Pat down of Oak Harbor teenager reveals stolen gun

An 18-year-old Oak Harbor man was arrested with a stolen handgun, according to court documents.

An 18-year-old Oak Harbor man was arrested March 10 with a stolen handgun, according to court documents.

On the same day, Eric K. Keo Jr. appeared in Island County Superior Court, and the judge found probable cause existed to believe Keo committed the crimes of possession of a firearm by a minor and possession of a stolen firearm.

The judge set Keo’s bail at $5,000 and he was bailed out March 11, according to the jail roster.

Just after midnight, Oak Harbor police responded to a fight at an apartment building on Crosby Avenue. The caller reported that people were yelling at each other and two men were pushing each other.

The police arrived and contacted two men. An officer patted down one of the men, identified as Keo, and felt the grip of a handgun in his waistband, the officer’s report states. The officer placed him in handcuffs and seized the handgun, which was a Smith and Wesson 9mm, the report states. The gun was loaded with six rounds, including one in the chamber.

The gun had been reported stolen during a burglary in Island County earlier in the year, according to the report.

An officer asked the other man what the fight had been about and he said he tried to retrieve “something” that belonged to him from a resident of the apartment.
