At the end of the school day Thursday, paper was flying at Oak Harbor High School.

It was the last day for seniors and, by tradition, the graduates-to-be tossed months of homework into the the air.

Graduation will take place Monday, June 15, at 6 p.m. at Wildcat Memorial Stadium. Tickets are required and attendees must arrive early. Gates will close at 5:45 p.m.

“Last year we prayed for no rain and instead we got wind. So this year we’ll pray for no wind and rain,” Principal Dwight Lundstrom said of last year’s blustery ceremony.

The forecast this year is expected to be sunny, with a high of 65 degrees.

The Class of 2009 had five students who topped their class with 4.0 grade point averages; Jordan Kingma, Chris Olson, John Hu, Jennifer Jansen and Caitlin Forster. They will each speak at the ceremony along with one other speaker, Lundstrom said. The theme will include “perseverance.”

Baccalaureate will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. in Parker Hall. The keynote speaker will be David Nienhuis, professor of theology at Seattle Pacific University, who will give an address entitled “Walk By Faith.”

About 335 seniors will receive their diplomas this year.
