In Whidbey General Hospital’s bond campaign the hospital’s Tom Tomasino and Trish Rose have been telling us that we have the lowest levy rate when compared with Skagit Valley and Island (Anacortes) hospitals. But we don’t pay our taxes by sending in a rate to the treasurer; we use dollars. If the proposed bond levy was in effect this year the comparisons of tax dollars collected for the three hospital districts would show Whidbey property owners paying the most.

Located on NE Leisure Street, the two-story, wood-and-brick structure belonged to Jeannette Omar. Known by many in the community by her maiden name of Kroon, Omar is the former longtime owner of the Knead and Feed restaurant on Coupeville’s waterfront.
At about 10:10 a.m. on Friday, a student at Oak Harbor Middle School reported finding a message on a bathroom door that read, “There is a bomb.”

It’s looking more and more like the Coupeville-to-Port Townsend ferry route will have a second vessel after all.
The Senate and House submitted transportation budgets this week and both place the Salish, the second of three Kwa-di Tabil class ferries being built, on the Coupeville run. Although neither has been adopted as of Friday morning, Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen, D-Camano, said she is confident that this is one part of the budget that will not change.
