Over 50: Is money being used wisely?

If Ginny Weeks’ statement (Oct. 12) that the $15 Senior Center annual membership fee “doesn’t even cover the cost of sending out the newsletter” is not misinformation, then somebody is either cooking the books or charging way beyond what the Senior Center should be paying for services.

I publish a monthly newsletter for a nonprofit organization, so I know that 12 to 16 black-and-white pages printed and mailed Presort Standard should not cost more than a dollar per month per subscriber. If it does, somebody needs to trim or eliminate some costs.

Furthermore, the Senior Center does not send the newsletter to each member, but one copy to each household, thereby halving the cost per member in many cases.

The Senior Center ignored a previous suggestion I made privately regarding its newsletter. Perhaps some turf protection needs public exposure.
