OH fastpitch on deck for win

The Oak Harbor softball team isn’t there yet, but they’re getting closer. The Cats had several quality chances to score in a 4-0 loss to Arlington on Tuesday.

After giving up two unearned runs in the first, the team settled down behind the pitching of Megan Berg, who then held the Eagles scoreless until the final inning.

The Cats had runners on first and third in the bottom of the third inning and runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Eagles were able to escape with ground balls to the pitcher on both occasions.

“We’re getting close, we just can’t seem to get that one hit to put us over the top,” said head coach Denny Zylstra after the game. “They kids are battling. It takes time but they’re starting to gel and they’ll get there.”

The Wildcats were scheduled to play at Monroe on Wednesday but that contest was postponed due to rain. They hosted Snohomish yesterday (results will be in next Wednesday’s edition of the Whidbey News-Times) and travel to Lake Stevens on Monday to face the Vikings.
