It was exciting to see the directional scarecrows going up around town this week indicating the start of the Haunting of Coupeville.

For the first time ever, members from all over the community are collaborating on bringing fun events all month long.

The Whidbey Examiner has hopped on the Haunting bandwagon and partnered with the Coupeville Chamber of Commerce to bring you the Where’s Ebey contest.

Ebey the Scarecrow will be moving around the community every Wednesday and Saturday this month. On page 3, you will find the first two clues to the first two locations he will be this week. Clues will be released every Wednesday in the Examiner and at www.whidbeyexaminer.com

When you figure out where he is, take a picture with him and post it on our or the chamber’s Facebook pages or email it to us with your name and contact information.

Submitting a photo enters you to win a $100 prize. One entry per person, per location.

This is just one of the ways various groups and businesses are partnering this month.

Teams are still forming and raising money for the Harvest Fest Relay Races, which are a little more than a week away.

One team is stepping up its fundraising game with the help of a matching donor.

The Coupeville High School Drama Troupe, which is sponsored annually by the historic waterfront association, has raised more than $5,000.

An anonymous donor stepped up and offered to match every dollar 1:2 up to $10,000.

This week, Vickie Chambers from the association said another donor stepped up to match another $5,000 raised 1:1.

All funds raised for the relays goes to Gifts from the Heart food bank.

This is going to be a magical month full of fun and giving back in all aspects of the community.
