A resident is accused of entering a home unlawfully and assaulting a woman who was dating her ex.

An Oak Harbor resident is accused of entering a home unlawfully and assaulting and using a knife to cut the hair of a woman who was dating her ex-boyfriend, according to court documents.

The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Angelica Sabado, stole a phone, car keys and a photo album during the Dec. 23 incident, a police report states. The victim was able to use a function on her smart watch to help officers track her phone to Sabado’s home, according to the report.

Sabado appeared in Island County Superior Court Tuesday. Judge Christon Skinner found probable cause existed to believe Sabado committed the crimes of residential burglary, robbery in the first degree, assault in the second degree and unlawful imprisonment.

Sabado’s attorney, Matt Montoya, said his client lives on the Navy base with her husband, who is on deployment. He said she has no criminal history and has a baby she needs to care for. Skinner agreed to release her on her personal recognizance.

Sabado’s ex-boyfriend told police that he received a call from Sabado while he was away; she said she wanted a photo from him. He told her she was not welcome in his home, but she went anyway, according to a report by an Oak Harbor police officer.

The 23-year-old victim said she heard knocking at the door and opened it to find Sabado, who walked into the house without permission, went to the bedroom and closed the door. The victim grabbed her keys to leave, but Sabado came out of the room and told her she wasn’t going anywhere. Sabado asked her personal information, which the woman was not comfortable answering.

Sabado grabbed the woman by the hair, threw her to the ground, dragged her to the bedroom and tried to hit her head against the doorframe, the officer wrote. Sabado then dragged the woman to the kitchen, where she grabbed a knife and cut some of the the woman’s hair off; afterward, she beat the woman’s head against the kitchen island and cut more of her hair, the report states.

Sabado stole the woman’s car keys, phone, eyeglasses and a photo album filled with photos of her ex-boyfriend and the victim, the report states. She left the home and drove away.

The victim later showed police that her Apple Watch located her iPhone at Sabado’s home on Rainier Circle. Police went to the home and arrested Sabado, who told the police that the phone and glasses were inside her vehicle and allowed officers to retrieve them, the report states. She said the photo album was inside the house but told the officers they could not have it; she denied having the keys, the report states.
