The Oak Harbor Babe Ruth baseball team collected one win in four games at the Lynden Tournament Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16.

Saturday Oak Harbor fell to the Seattle Rainiers 10-2 and Bellevue 6-3, and Sunday defeated the Diamond Dogs 11-8 before losing to the Abbottsford Angels 6-0.

Sloppy defense hurt Oak Harbor Saturday as it committed 13 errors in the two games, eight coming in the opening loss to the Rainiers. Seattle and Bellevue combined for no errors.

Oak Harbor also failed to generate much offense against the Rainiers in the five-inning loss; Chris Levy recorded the only hit, a two-run single in the fourth.

The Rainiers, who were also aided by 10 Oak Harbor walks, scored two runs in the first and fourth innings and three in the second and third to pull away.

Oak Harbor out-hit Bellevue 8-7 but was once again haunted by errors as Bellevue scored four unearned runs.

Oak Harbor scored in the top of the first when Austin Hauter singled home Trent Benson who had tripled.

Bellevue scored two in the first and second innings and added another run in the third to go up 5-1 before Oak Harbor scored again.

In the top of the sixth, Cory Roberts walked, moved up on a passed ball and scored on single by Levy.

In the seventh, Paul Spence tripled and scored on Paul Southerland’s ground out.

Spence finished the game 3-for-3 and Benson was 2-for-2.

In the win over the Diamond Dogs, Oak Harbor blew a five-run lead but scored three in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.

The Dawgs jumped to a 2-0 first-inning lead, then Oak Harbor pulled ahead 8-3 going into the bottom of the fifth. The Dawgs scored five in the fifth to tie it.

Oak Harbor’s first run came in the second. Robert Herring reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and stole home.

Oak Harbor erupted for five runs in the third. Doubles by Dominic Stevens and Levy and singles by Benson, Dylan Bailey, Herring and Southerland highlighted the inning.

Oak Harbor padded its lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth. In the fourth, Benson singled with two outs and Stevens doubled again, plating Benson.

In the fifth, Levy doubled and scored on Herring’s single.

The Diamond Dawgs scored five in the fifth to tie it but couldn’t hold Oak Harbor in the seventh. With one out, Stevens walked, stole second and scored on Hauter’s single. Bailey followed with a base hit, and Levy singled in the final two runs.

For the game, Levy rapped three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two. Hauter, Benson, Bailey and Herring each had two hits.

After pounding out 14 hits against the Diamond Dawgs, Oak Harbor was no-hit by Abbottsford.

The game was close, 2-0, until the sixth when the Angels scored four runs.
