Get a taste of Argentina this month as Dan’s Classic Ballrooms offers a six-week beginner class on the tango.

“It’s a dance of intense connection, grace and sensuality,” guest instructor David Imburgia said.

Argentine tango originated from the brothels (some say the streets) of Buenos Aires. It was shunned by the respectable classes, as was the waltz, as too passionate and controversial. Today the dance basks in new found respect as its popularity spread across Europe and America.

Imburgia has taught tango for eight years, studying in places such as Rome, Paris and Buenos Aires.

“This is a dance that people owe themselves a chance to try,” he said. “It’s exotic, yet danced everywhere in the world.”

Classes began Jan. 11, but there is still time to sign up. The series is $90 per person, and classes are from 6:30 to 8 p.m. For more information call 360-682-6194, or email dan@dansclassicballroom.comcastbiz.net.

Dan’s Classic Ballroom Studio is located at 210 SE Pioneer Way #3 in Oak Harbor.
