Oak Harbor stops Stanwood in home opener | Swimming

The Oak Harbor High School swim and dive team opened its home season with a solid 104-87 win over Stanwood Monday, Sept. 21, at John Vanderzicht Pool.

The Oak Harbor High School swim and dive team opened its home season with a solid 104-87 win over Stanwood Monday, Sept. 21, at John Vanderzicht Pool.

The Wildcats won six of the 11 events, and Taliah Black played a part in four.

Black won the 200-meter individual medley (2:42.08) and 100 breaststroke (1:21.78) and swam on two winning relay teams.

Marissa Morris, Black, Naomi Garcia and Jillian Pape captured the 200 medley relay (2:18.9); and Pape, Erica Sugatan, Black and Morris finished first in the 400 free relay (1:21.78).

Morris added a win in the 200 meter freestyle (2:23.05), and Baelee Whitinger took the 50 free (33.05).

Other highlights, according to coach Erin Bull, came from Sophie Dickinson, who dropped eight seconds from her previous best in the 400-meter freestyle, and Maya Krantz, who cut three seconds from her personal best in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

The meet attracted a good crowd.

“We really appreciate all who came out to support the team,” Bull said.

Oak Harbor’s (3-1) next meet is also at home. Marysville-Pilchuck (0-1) and Marysville Getchell (0-1) visit at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28.
