Oak Harbor man accused of assault with a bat

An Oak Harbor man is being held on $50,000 bail after allegedly beating another man with a baseball bat.

Prosecutors charged Troy A. Housden, 30, in Island County Superior Court June 19 with assault in the second degree.

Deputies responded to a 911 report of an assault at a Burma Road residence; they found a 29-year-old man with blood-soaked hair and blood running down his arms, the report indicates.

The victim said he got out of his friend’s truck to help with a broken-down car when a man he didn’t know struck him multiple times with a baseball bat, according to the police report.

A witness said the two men got into an altercation that ended with Housden allegedly hitting the man with a baseball bat.

Housden denied committing the assault. He told a deputy he was working on a car when he heard the victim start yelling that he had been hit with a bat, the deputy wrote in his report.

The deputies called additional police to the scene after the owner advised them that there were guns and four people wanted on arrest warrants inside the house. The people came out voluntarily and were taken into custody by police.

If convicted of the charge, Housden could face from 15 to 20 months in prison under the standard sentencing range.
