Oak Harbor girls run by Snohomish, Cascade | Track

Led by a strong showing by its sprinters, the Oak Harbor High School girls track team stopped Snohomish and Cascade Thursday, March 31, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

Led by a strong showing by its sprinters, the Oak Harbor High School girls track team stopped Snohomish and Cascade Thursday, March 31, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

The Wildcats beat Snohomish 81-69 and Cascade 118-30.

The Oak Harbor boys were edged by the Panthers 74-71 but clipped Cascade 98-43.

The Wildcat girls claimed the top five spots in the 200 meters, six of the top seven in the 100, four of the top six in the 400 and won both the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.

The sprinters were led by winners Janae Payne (200, 27.56) and Alana Austin (400, 1:05.78). Payne also ran on the two winning relay teams, joining Austin, Alora Caillier and Matti Miesle in the 4×200 (1:49.89); and Jenna Cooley, Miesle and Amaya Rittierodt in the 4×100 (51.34).

Kaitlyn Chelberg added wins in the 100 hurdles (16.38) and 300 hurdles (50.87).

Other winners were Alex Smith (3,200, 12:35.78), Claire Anderson (high jump, 4-10), Cooley (long jump, 15-10.5) and Julie Jansen (discus, 106-01.5).

Jared Gray paced the Oak Harbor boys with wins in the hurdles (110, 15.91; 300, 41.38) and on the 4×400 relay (3:39.12) with Josh Cote, Ozell Jackson and Josiah Welch.

Garren Guerrero (19) led a 1-2-3 finish for Oak Harbor in the long jump.

Others finishing first were Cote (400, 54.81), Joseph Noland (discus, 149-03) and Austin White (shot put, 43-11).

Oak Harbor will go to Mount Vernon to face the Bulldogs and Edmonds-Woodway at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14.
