Oak Harbor boys 7th, girls 11th after opening day of district | Track

The Oak Harbor High School boys track team sits in seventh place and the girls 11th after the first day of the District 1 Championships Wednesday, May 18, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

The Oak Harbor High School boys track team sits in seventh place and the girls 11th after the first day of the District 1 Championships Wednesday, May 18, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

The Edmonds-Woodway boys (41 points) and Lynnwood girls (31) have the early lead. The Wildcat boys earned 11.5 points and the girls four in the 13-team meet.

The finals in five events were held Wednesday; the finals in the other events will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at M-P.

The top eight in each event scored team points, and the top three qualified for the state meet.

Julie Jansen was the only Oak Harbor girl to compete in a final Wednesday, finishing fifth in the discus with a throw of 105-08.

On the boys side, Jordan Washington just missed a state trip by placing fourth in the long jump (20-02).  Darren Guerrero (19-03) was eighth, Andrew Miller (18-06)12th and Thomas Gilham (17-10) 14th in the same event.

Kyle Nickols (5-08), Ozell Jackson (5-06) and Washington (5-06) finished 7-8-9 in the high jump.

Ben Gasper (4:35.39) placed 13th, two spots ahead of Jake Hucko (4:39.31), in the 1,600 meters.

 

Cullen Wood was 11th in the pole vault (10-06).
