The Whidbey Island Nighthawks Legion AA baseball team dropped a pair of games this week.

The Nighthawks, which include players from all three Whidbey high schools, lost 9-1 to Anacortes in Oak Harbor Tuesday, May 31, then fell 18-1 in five innings at Mount Vernon Wednesday.

Whidbey (1-3) travels to Anacortes (1-1) for a rematch at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Anacortes pulled away in Tuesday’s game with three runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth.

The Nighthawks’ run came in the second inning when Ethan Marx singled and scored on Steven Richards’ triple.

Marx and Richards both finished 2-for-3, and Matt Hilborn also had two hits. Mitch Grady, Will Simms and Taylor Consford added singles.

Mount Vernon (4-1) scored six runs in each of the first two innings to begin the rout.

Whidbey Island had only two hits in the game, singles by Hilborn and Richards. The two hits, along with a fielder’s choice by Consford, led to the Nighthawks’ run in the fourth inning.
