New restaurant for Front Street

Regarding the story on Front Street development (News-Times, Oct. 28), I feel a bit frustrated with our illustrious Mayor Conard. She states the town has received comments from residents saying they don’t want the four empty lots developed, nor that they want a restaurant built. I beg to differ and have to ask if she’s biased.

I’ve had several conversations with her and sent her a letter saying that our family would love to see a new restaurant as would many of the folks we’ve spoken to. Why isn’t that side of the issue ever presented? The town wants us to spend our money here in Coupeville yet certainly our choices for dining are extremely limited. I don’t see Nancy fighting against the construction of new homes and sub-divisions very hard. What has she got against developing several small lots in town including one for a new place to dine?

Her comment that the only way to preserve these lots would be for the town to purchase them is also interesting. Right now the current owners of these lots are being forced to “perserve” them anyway. Doesn’t sound like a very fair situation to me.
