For the safety of runners participating in the 2013 Whidbey Island Marathon and Half Marathon, NAS Whidbey traffic on the Seaplane Base will limited Sunday, April 14.

More than 1,500 runners and walkers are expected.

Race organizers expect runners to arrive on base at 8:30 a.m. with normal traffic flow resuming shortly after 1:30 p.m.

The route enters the Crescent Harbor Housing area at Forest Drive, then turning left on Forest Lane, then a right on Western Drive and then a final right onto Larch Drive.

From Larch Drive, runners enter the base at the Solomon Gate – between Crescent Harbor Housing and the Penfold Pond – and continue down Solomon Road to turn right on East Pioneer Way.

From there, runners will continue down E. Pioneer Way crossing over Torpedo Road and exiting the base at Gate 2, adjacent to PBY Museum.

Once off the Seaplane Base, runners will cross over Pioneer Way to the Whidbey Island Yacht Club then continue down the oncoming lane towards City Beach.

Traffic will be limited to inbound and outbound vehicles through Torpedo Gate and Maui Gate will be secured until the marathon is over.

Personnel departing the Seaplane Base during this time should use extreme caution when encountering Torpedo and East Pioneer Way intersection.

Residents living in Saratoga Heights, Victory Park, and Rockhill Terrace housing areas that exit onto Regatta Drive will be restricted to “right turn only” traffic revisions on both Saturday, April 13, and Sunday, April 14, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. to accommodate marathon participants.

Access to Western Drive and Larch Drive in Crescent Harbor Housing will be limited to residents only on Sunday, April 14.
