A Navy man is accused of strangling his husband into unconsciousness before reviving him with CPR at their home on Aug. 5, according to court documents.
Jacque S. Saulsberry, a 22-year-old North Whidbey resident, was released from Island County Jail Aug. 24 after posting $10,000 bail.
Prosecutors had charged Saulsberry in Island County Superior Court two weeks earlier with assault in the second degree, a domestic violence crime.
A report by a deputy with the Island County Sheriff’s Office states that Navy command personnel called 911 to report the assault at Navy housing in the afternoon of Aug. 5.
The 38-year-old victim said Saulsberry became angry with him for bringing a metal work desk home. Saulsberry broke the desk before hauling it outside by the trash cans; he also broke an empty rabbit cage, the report states.
The victim said Saulsberry choked him into unconsciousness. He said he remembered convulsing just prior to losing consciousness and then waking up to Saulsberry pushing on his chest and performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, the report states.
Saulsberry told an investigator that he wasn’t trying to hurt his husband, but he was very upset about the work desk being brought home after he told his husband not to.
“He stated that he was not sure if (the victim) had actually stopped breathing but was concerned enough to call his chief and start CPR,” the report states.
