NAS Whidbey Island SAR transports injured snowmobiler

A Search and Rescue team from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island conducted a medical evacuation Saturday afternoon from Mount Baker to Harborview Medical Center.

The five-person team was notified of an injured snowmobiler at an elevation of approximately 5,500 feet around 1 p.m. The crew landed near the site about 20 minutes later, assessed the patient and took off around 1:35 p.m. The SAR team delivered the patient to the medical center half an hour later.

This was the first rescue of 2018 for NAS Whidbey, which has also conducted two searches. The Navy search and rescue unit operates three MH-60S helicopters from NAS Whidbey Island.
