Middle School student facing felony assault charge

A teenager is facing a felony charge for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old boy.

A teenager is facing a felony charge for allegedly assaulting a 13-year-old boy at North Whidbey Middle School in April and causing a fracture to the pre-teen’s orbital socket, according to court records.

Prosecutors charged the 14-year-old suspect in Island County Juvenile Court June 20 with assault in the second degree.

The police report on the incident states that the student wrongly suspected the younger student had “snitched” on him and another student about vaping in the school while in reality the associate principal just happened upon the pot smokers.

A video provided to the police shows the suspect attacking the younger boy in a bathroom. He can be seen punching the boy in the face at least once, elbowing him in the face and then continuing to punch him on other areas of his body, the police report states.

The victim refused to cooperate with the investigation, but the police had enough evidence to go forward with the charge anyway, the report indicates.

The boy was sent to get medical treatment because of the seriousness of the head injuries. He suffered a fracture of the orbital floor, facial contusions, a black eye, an ear abrasion and a possible concussion, the police report states.
