Congratulations to Ernie and Jeanette Meyer upon the occasion of their Golden Wedding Anniverary. Ernie is originally from Chewelah, Wash.  Jeanette, born Mary Jeanette Fitzgerald, is from St. John’s Newfoundland, Canada.

While Ernie was stationed at NAS Argentia in March 1960, he went into town with a pal and by chance met Jeanette, who was working at Walinsky’s Clothing Store.  They went on their first date that very night. Fourteen months later, they were married at St. Teresa’s Church in St. John’s, Newfoundland.  During Ernie’s 23-year naval career, they had their first child, Donna, while stationed at NAS Brunswick, Maine.  While Ernie went off to Vietnam, Jeanette stayed in Abliene, Texas with her sister and gave birth to their first son, Jeffery.  Later while they were stationed as NAS Alemeda, their second son, Scott, was born.

Shortly after that, they moved to Oak Harbor for the second time in 1973 and have resided there ever since. Their son Jeff married Joan Schroer and they have given Ernie and Jeanette their two grandchildren, Kimberly and Sean, who reside in Anacortes.  The entire family will get together on June 24 to celebrate this golden anniversary at the Space Needle in Seattle.

“All of us wish Mom and Dad, Nana and Grandpa a Happy 50th Anniversary!” the family wrote.  “We Love You Both!”
