Bringing a bit of Africa together with jazzy dance music, Maya Soleil will return to Bayview Hall for a World Beat Dance Party Friday, Sept. 12. The all-ages, smoke-free event starts at 7:30 p.m. and will last for several hours. The group, which performed here last November, will present fresh songs being developed for their new CD as well as some old favorites. Maya Soleil presents a high-energy show of original music, ranging from the Highlife, Afro-beat, and other dance music styles of western Africa to the unusual rhythmic sounds of southern Africa. Costumed vocalists-dancers Moye Kashimbi from Zambia and Sukutai (Lora Chiorah-Dye) from Zimbabwe charm the audience with vocals in several African languages and English, with their solo dances, and with audience-interactive dance and song. The ensemble includes members from Africa, Jamaica, the Philippines and the USA. Tickets are $ $10 day of the show. This event is being held in association with World Friendship Day to be held at the Island County Fairgrounds the next day, Saturday, Sept. 13. More information is
