A Grays Harbor County man who worked frequently at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island was not expected to survive after being involved in a two-vehicle crash June 28.

Eric Ward, 42, of McCleary was on his way home from work on State Route 108 in Grays Harbor County when another car struck a deer.

The deer flew through the air and into Ward’s windshield.

He was taken by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center.

His wife told KOMO 4 News Thursday that the crash left Ward with severe brain damage and the family planned to donate his organs.

Ward worked in appliance repair at Joint Base Lewis McChord and NAS Whidbey, according to his wife.
