A Clinton man, wanted on multiple felony warrants, was arrested Monday afternoon in Coupeville after merchants reported him being suspicious downtown, possibly casing shops.

Coupeville Marshal Rick Norrie said he received a call from a Front Street business owner about the 37-year-old man was seen lurking around businesses and asked one owner about his alarm system.

When Norrie found the man, he was uncooperative.

After learning his name, Norrie said he found the man was wanted on multiple felony warrants in and out of Island County.

“He wasn’t warm and friendly,” Norrie said. “He had an extensive criminal list, about an inch thick.”

“He was trying to squirrel away.”

The man was booked into Island County Jail where he awaited transfer back to the Department of Corrections.

Norrie said the man’s arrest was a result of the vigilance of the downtown merchants.
