Man pleads not guilty to child rape

A 23-year-old Navy man is accused of having sex with his wife’s 15-year-old sister, according to court documents.

Prosecutors charged Luke Simowitz, a former Oak Harbor resident, in Island County Superior Court Feb. 13 with the rape of a child in the third degree. He could face more than a year in prison if convicted.

Simowitz pleaded not guilty March 5.

Oak Harbor Police Det. Carl Seim wrote that Simowitz’s wife reported that her husband was having sexual intercourse with her kid sister at their Oak Harbor home. The woman said she caught the two of them naked in bed, the report states.

Officers went to the Simowitz’s room at the Queen Anne Motel Feb. 8 and were greeted by the 15-year-old girl, who said Simowitz was at work, the report states. Seim wrote that he could see that the girl was several months pregnant, but she denied being pregnant or having sex with Simowitz.

One of the officers called Simowitz on his cell phone. Simowitz admitted to having sex with the teenager one time, Seim wrote. When asked if he could have impregnated the teenager, Simowitz denied it but said he would talk her into getting an abortion or pay child support.

Two days later, officers followed the teenager as she walked to the motel and met up with Simowitz. They arrested Simowitz and found two love letters from the teenager on him — one in his pocket and one in his wallet, Seim wrote.

Simowitz’s current address is listed as the USS Lincoln at Naval Station Bremerton.
