Man jumps from Deception Pass bridge

An Oak Harbor man was killed when he jumped from Deception Pass Bridge in front of witnesses Feb. 29, according to the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office reports that 43-year-old Ron Tennison climbed over the railing of the bridge and jumped. The incident was reported at 6:22 p.m.

Deputies with the sheriff’s office and first responders from North Whidbey Fire and Rescue initiated a water rescue effort. The U.S. Coast Guard also launched a boat from Bellingham and a helicopter from Port Angeles.
