A man was injured and hospitalized following a single motorcycle accident in Oak Harbor Friday evening.
Around 7 p.m. Aug. 11, the Oak Harbor fire and police departments and WhidbeyHealth EMS were dispatched to Southeast Pioneer Way, where a motorcyclist had been thrown from his motorcycle near Ace Hardware.
Police Chief Kevin Dresker said the responding officer found the motorcycle lying in the roadway with the driver lying nearby. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Fire Chief Ray Merrill said the motorcyclist was unconscious but breathing when first responders arrived to offer aid.
The injured motorcyclist was provided with medical treatment at the scene before being transported to Island Health in Anacortes. He was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center.
Dresker said the cause of the accident is still under investigation, though speeding may have been a factor. He added that it appeared the motorcyclist’s driver’s license had been suspended, and he did not have a motorcycle endorsement.
