Man charged with repeated burglary of North Whidbey house

Deputies repeatedly arrested a man who keeps breaking into a vacant home and setting up house.

Deputies repeatedly arrested a man who keeps breaking into a vacant North Whidbey home and setting up house, even going as far as changing the locks, according to court documents.

Jarren E. March, a 36-year-old Anacortes man, is currently in jail on a $20,000 warrant and facing felony charges in two different cases.

On July 3, a deputy with the Island County Sheriff’s Office was doing a routine check on the vacant home and found an RV blocking the driveway and an unknown pickup parked next to the home. The deputy called for backup to check the home.

The deputies entered the house and discovered March inside, a deputy’s report states. March allegedly admitted that two RVs, two trucks and a boat on the property belonged to him and that he had been living in the house for two or three weeks, according to the report.

The deputy later discovered that March had changed the deadbolt on the house and had left food in the refrigerator, the report states.

Prosecutors charged March on Aug. 3 with residential burglary and theft in the third degree.

Court documents indicate that deputies caught March at the residence and arrested him again on July 8 and Aug. 15.

On the third occasion, deputies knocked and got no response and then tried to pick the door lock, but ended up going in through a sliding door. They found March sitting on a couch, the report states.

March told the deputies that the homeowner didn’t tell him he couldn’t be there and that the deputies were violating his rights. He accused the deputy of being part of a vigilante crime ring, the report states.

The homeowner told deputies that he didn’t give anyone permission to be at the home.

On Aug. 16, March appeared in Island County Superior Court and the judge found probable cause existed to believe he had again committed the crimes of residential burglary and theft in the third degree.
