A 20-year-old Oak Harbor man was sentenced to jail for biting a jailer on the leg.

As part of a plea bargain, Jaquan Wilson pleaded guilty in Island County Superior Court April 21 to assault in the third degree. A charge of second-degree malicious mischief was dismissed.

Judge Alan Hancock agreed with the sentence recommendation presented by the prosecution and defense. He sentenced Wilson to two months in jail and ordered him to pay $1,710 in fines and fees.

According to the report by Oak Harbor Police Officer Ron Hofkamp, police responded to a report of someone breaking a window at a Comcast business Jan. 22. They ended up arresting Wilson, who was very uncooperative.

The officers forced Wilson into a police car. He spit at an officer several times, threatened to kill the officers and kicked the rear doors, bending the upper portion of one of the doors outward, the report states. He also kicked and broke the door armrest, the officer wrote.

At the city jail, Wilson continued to be violent and bit a jailer on the calf. The police ultimately transported him to the larger county jail because of his unruly behavior.

During an earlier hearing, the judge took the unusual step of making “no biting” a condition of Wilson’s release from jail.
