Man accused of purposely crashing into car with kids inside

An Oak Harbor man is accused of purposely crashing his car into another car with his estranged girlfriend and their four kids inside on April 3, according to court documents.

Nobody was injured, but Chris-topher J. Williams, 31, drove away from the scene without checking on his family, the police report states.

Prosecutors charged Williams in Island County Superior Court April 10 with assault in the second degree, assault of a child in the second degree, hit and run and reckless driving.

The woman reported to police that she was driving with the children and stopped at the 7-Eleven store on the south end of town.

Williams pulled up in his car, got out and hugged her; she smelled alcohol on his breath and told him not to touch her, according to the police report.

The woman drove away but was struck from behind by Williams’ car a few minutes later on Northeast Izett Street, the report states. The impact was forceful enough to spin her car. Witnesses said Williams was speeding prior to the crash.

Two passengers got out of Williams’ car and ran away; Williams drove off after the woman punched him, the officer wrote.

The police report states that Williams has an extensive criminal history. He pleaded guilty to a drive-by shooting in a 2011 Oak Harbor case and was sentenced to three years and three months in prison.

A judge in Island County Superior Court set Williams’ bail at $10,000 and ordered him to get a mental health evaluation prior to release from jail.

Williams could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the charges against him.
