Scarecrow Contest accepts entries Sept. 23
Whidbey Island’s annual Scarecrow Contest is open to all Whidbey Island residents, clubs, organizations and businesses.
Monday, Sept. 23, is the deadline to enter the contest; all scarecrows must be built and in place by 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 12.
Anyone who enters the contest is assigned a location to build a scarecrow scene along a Coupeville street.
Once the scarecrow corridor is up, people can drive or walk around admiring the artistic efforts.
If there are more than 100 entries, categories for junior builders will be added. And prize money may increase if artists, who have followed the rules, exceed 100.
The contest is free to enter and all prizes are cash; as of Aug. 24, almost $1,000 in prize money is available.
The contest is sponsored by Central Whidbey Chamber of Commerce. Entry forms, rules and details are posted at www.centralwhidbey
chamber.com; call 678-5434.
