After a little more than six months being stuck at the Coupeville Wharf, an abandoned boat looks to be staying for a while longer.

The commissioners for the Port of Coupeville Wednesday morning rejected the only bid submitted to purchase a 40-foot Sea Ray power boat known as the Louie Louie.

People attending the monthly meeting chuckled when commissioner Marshall Bronson announced the sole bid — $4,250.99 submitted by Coupeville resident Ralph Hennessey. His bid was far short of the minimum $30,000 the port advertised for the vessel.

The Sea Ray has been moored at the Coupeville Wharf since October because its owner hasn’t been able to pay the daily moorage fees.

Port officially claimed the boat last month and then advertised  the auction. Since claiming the boat port staff boarded the vessel, removed four bags of trash and conducted a closer inspection. They found a gash on the port side under the waterline.

Port Executive Director Jim Patton noted the gash hadn’t broken through the hull, but a propeller blade was bent. Meanwhile, The vessel’s interior was also cleaned.

With the rejection of the sole bid, port leaders are looking at alternatives to dispose of the Louie Louie.

“We want to get rid of this boat off our pier,” Bronson said during the meeting.

Patton plans to contact the Port of Anacortes, which has more experience disposing of such vessels, and learn about advertising the vessel on Craigslist.
