“Do you have plans for New Year’s Eve?Even though it is technically the turn of the millennium, this Sunday night you don’t have to worry about massive computer systems failure, terrorism at the Space Needle or the end of the world hysteria.So if you live on Whidbey and you haven’t been invited to a party yet, don’t sweat it. Many local restaurants and bars are throwing all sorts of parties, from Karaoke to live bands, to help anyone over 21 to ring in the new year.Here’s a look at what’s going on:The Blue Dolphin in Oak Harbor is having live music by the Groove Merchants, door prizes, munchies and champagne toasts at midnight. Tickets are $10 each and will be available at the door.The Captain’s Galley in Coupeville, a waterside tavern specializing in marine cuisine, is having live rock ‘n roll music by the local band, Stranded Dogs.For Pete’s Sake in Oak Harbor is hosting a New Year’s Eve party with a balloon drop, free party favors and munchies. There will be no cover charge, so get there early for a seat.Kasteel Franssen in Oak Harbor is serving a special five coarse meal on New Year’s Eve. There will be dining and dancing in the lounge with Herb Day and Gordon McLean, as well as special party favors and a midnight champagne toast.Island Grill near Deception Pass is also serving a special elegant gourmet dinner for New Year’s Eve. Reservations are recommended.Mi Pueblo in Oak Harbor will be having a Karaoke night.The Swinomish Casino, off Highway 20 near Anacortes, is throwing a New Year’s Eve Gala. The Chryslers, a danceable rock-and-roll band, will start playing at 9:30 p.m. There will be valet parking, a jazz band playing in the lobby, party favors, New Year’s gifts, a balloon drop and a champagne toast. The casino will serve a buffet with prime rib, chicken cordon bleu, king salmon and other tasty tidbits. Tickets are $40 and are expected to sell out quickly.
