An Oak Harbor woman is accused of punching her partner in the face, threatening to kill him and grabbing the steering wheel from him while he was trying to drive, according to court documents.

Samantha Joe Braddy, 33, was charged in Island County Superior Court Oct. 11 with reckless endangerment, fourth degree assault and felony harassment, all domestic violence charges, court documents state.

According to a police report, the Island County Sheriff’s Office received a call Oct. 7 that a car was stopped in the road on Highway 20 near Degraff Road. The reporting party warned of a possible domestic violence incident and stated that a woman had exited the car in a bra and was screaming, the report states.

The police also received several calls from the driver of the vehicle, who told dispatch he was being attacked, the report states.

According to the report, the driver told deputies with the sheriff’s office that he picked up Braddy from Anacortes. She wanted to go to Bellingham, and when the driver said he did not want to go, Braddy became upset, started yelling and tried to grab the steering wheel, the driver reported to the deputies.

The driver told deputies that Braddy then hit him three times in the face. A deputy reported noticing swelling and a blood spot on the driver’s bottom lip. According to the report, the driver said he had to stop the car because Braddy’s yanking on the steering wheel almost caused the vehicle to hit the median. Then, the driver said Braddy began pulling his hair so hard it caused him to scream.

According to the report, the driver told deputies that Braddy then tried to choke him, reportedly telling him he was going to die and calling him a derogatory term. The driver said he could not breathe for 15 seconds and feared for his life.

The police report states that Braddy appeared to be intoxicated.

Braddy was taken into custody and later released on her personal recognizance, pending trial, according to court documents.
