Roman Larsen, a deaf fourth grader from Hillcrest Elementary, performed in front of thousands at the Seahawks preseason game against the Denver Broncos on Saturday.

Larsen stood at the 45-yard line of Qwest Field and signed the National Anthem, as the quartet, “Graduates of Pasco” sang during the opening ceremonies.

According to his mother, Kim, Roman loves to perform in front of people.

“Roman is a real trooper, he stands on the field with a big smile and no fear,” she said. “I am the one who gets nervous.”

Larsen, who has severe hearing loss, was able to enjoy the crowd’s cheers after the song thanks to his cochlear implant, which helps him hear.

This wasn’t the first time Larsen signed for the Seahawks, as he received his first opportunity last season. He will get another chance to sign on military appreciation day, Oct. 10 when Seattle faces the St. Louis Rams.

“I like to sing and sign and maybe next time the Seahawks will win,” Larsen said, referring to Seattle’s 19-3 loss to the Broncos.
