Kings win tourney

Eight hours is a long way to travel to play soccer, but for four local boys, it was well worth it.

Sean Donley, Nick Dziminowicz, Caley Powers and Dakota Powers took a trip to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho June 10-11 to play in the Silverwood Theme Park 3 on 3 Shootout and won their BU-10 age group.

The Kings won their first game 6-4 and their second game 13-2 before losing their third, 5-4. The points the Kings earned in regular pool play, however, put them as the second-seeded team and in the championship match to face the team they just lost to.

Despite fatigue and a torrential downpour, the Kings stepped up to the challenge, beating the reigning two-time age group champions handily, 8-1.

Throughout the series, all four boys scored and created significant action on the pitch. Caley Powers led the team in scoring with 11 goals, followed closely by Sean Donley with nine.

Powers logged hat tricks in games three and four, Donley in games two and four, and Dakota Powers in games one and two. Assists came from Donley (3), Caley Powers (2) and Nick Dziminowicz (1).

The games were played inside the Northwest’s largest theme park, which had 12 fields lined for the event. Games were played in two 12-minute halves with a one-minute halftime. They had no stoppages of play, which meant subs were taken on the fly.
