Kid fair scheduled for Saturday

First annual DARE Fair arrives this weekend

“A large outdoor climbing wall will dominate the skyline at the Ennen’s and Big Kmart parking lot this Saturday during the first annual DARE Fair. Informational booths from community organizations like Boy and Girl Scouts of America, 4-H, Partnership With Youth and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) will be on hand for children and their parents to learn about. It provides an opportunity for kids to be aware of things to do in Oak Harbor and their parents as well, Parents for DARE member Al Bartlett said. It’s a ‘learn about your community’ day. People who bring a donation of non-perishable food or a new unwrapped toy can get a free pass to climb the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station’s rock wall or ride the Brattland Go Cart course in the parking lot. The fair also will include raffles, giveaways, food and Christmas caroling from Crescent Harbor Elementary students. Santa Claus will even take a break from his busy schedule to visit the fair. The event will benefit Help House and the Marine’s Toys for Tots program. To find out more about the fair contact DARE Officer Steve Nordstrand at 240-4796, Beth Prosh at 279-9797 or e-mail rice@oakharbor.net. “
