Join in on fan frenzy

Oak Harbor’s final home football game against undefeated Arlington will generate enough excitement in itself, but expect to see a little additional enthusiasm coming from the sideline this Friday.

For the second straight year, the Oak Harbor High cheerleading team has organized Fan Frenzy Night, a nationwide program designed by CheerStix that focuses on community attention to family fun and excitement of high school sports.

Schools across the country are implementing Fan Frenzy Night to encourage community attendance at high school athletic events. The Wildcat cheerleaders placed third in the nation for hosting the best Fan Frenzy Night in 2004. This year, they plan to be number one.

Upon entrance to the game the first 350 fans will receive a free Wildcat car flag graciously provided by Frontier Chevrolet.

“This is a night of Wildcat insanity,” captain Natalie Lumbo said. “We want, the loudest, craziest crowd in Wildcat history.”

Throughout the night spirited fans will be rewarded with spirit beads, mini footballs, tee shirts and rally rags. Other activities include: a tailgating party sponsored by the Wildcat Booster Club, pregame pep rally and show with Jus Wally and Krissie the clowns, the cheerleaders and KWDB face painting and hair coloring booths, special coupons in the Wildcat sports program, a performance by the state champion Oak Harbor High School cheerleaders, a field goal kick-off at halftime for a mountain bike sponsored by Pizza Factory, special recognition for the senior players and cheerleaders, plus a salute to military men and women.

Events leading up to Fan Frenzy Night included a “Find the Paw” contest amongst local merchants where one lucky person won $250, a parade through town, a crazy fan dress-up contest at school and the entire town and local businesses dressing in purple and gold on game Friday.
