Island County seeking applicants for committees

A new year means new ways to get involved in government decision-making. There are a number of vacancies on local committees and boards that help guide policy.

The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking applications to serve on the planning commission. Commission members are needed from district 1, which comprises South and Central Whidbey, and district 3, which is North Whidbey and Camano Island.

This nine-member commission makes recommendations to the board regarding growth and development in Island County. Members serve a four-year term and the group meets at 2 p.m. the second and fourth Monday of each month in Coupeville.

Applications are due no later than 4:30 p.m., Feb. 6.

Commissioners are also seeking applicants to fill a position on the Housing Authority Board. Members serve five-year terms and aim to promote adequate and affordable housing, economic opportunity and a suitable living environment free from discrimination, according to a press release. The board typically meets at 9:30 a.m. the second Tuesday of each month, excluding December.

Application materials must be sent by 4:30 p.m. Feb. 13.

There is also an opening on the Northwest Senior Services Advisory Board for a term that runs until June 30, 2020.

This board serves Island, San Juan, Skagit and Whatcom counties and plans services for seniors and people with disabilities, according to a press release. Meetings occur the third Thursday of the month, with exceptions during the holidays.

This application is due Feb. 14.
