Air Force Airman Maria V. McGinnis graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. She is the daughter of Mari Cris McGinnis of S.W. Ponsteen Drive, Oak Harbor. McGinnis graduated in 2007 from Oak Harbor High School.

Brooks A. Waller has received an Air Force ROTC college scholarship offer to attend a selected host college or university.

The cadet was selected to receive the scholarship certificate on the basis of comprehensive tests, high school scholastic achievement, and extra-curricular activities.

He is the son of James T. and Sandra K. Waller of Oak Harbor. Waller is currently attending Oak Harbor High School.

Air Force Airman Thomas B. Haymaker graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. He is the son of Brian Haymaker of Undine St., Bellingham, and Carol Haymaker of Swantown Road, Oak Harbor. Haymaker is a 2006 graduate of Squalicum High School.

Air Force Airman Stephen K. McKenzie graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies and Air Force core values.

McKenzie is the son of Renee Tisdale of S.W. Barrington Drive, Oak Harbor, and brother of Aisling McKenzie of Ingleside, Texas. The airman is a 2007 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Army National Guard Spec. Eric M. Gerber has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

The specialist is a 1990 graduate of Oak Harbor High School, and received a master’s degree in 2004 from City University of Seattle.
