This is in response to Patricia “Hunger Strike” Brooks. Her Soundoff column (News-Times, Sept. 23) ended with a question, “What will you do?” My answer is that I will honor and be grateful for all military service personnel who are protecting us. I will also honor and respect our country’s president and leaders, even though I don’t always agree with what they do.

It is because of our democracy that you have freedom, especially freedom of speech and I am free to respond. It also gives you the opportunity for publicity and freedom to starve if you so choose.

Now Patricia, I ask you: Who will care for you when you are too weak to care for yourself? What about their freedom and who will pay for your care?
