Four people were hospitalized in recent days due to two separate car accidents on Highway 20.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, Oak Harbor 74-year-old resident Parker Bond was driving a 1990 Ford Ranger south on Highway 20. He left the highway near the intersection with Zylstra Road and drove through trees and brush, according to the State Patrol.

He was transported to Whidbey General Hospital where he was treated and released. The State Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.

Then, on June 5, three people were injured in an accident on Highway 20 on Fidalgo Island near the intersection with Gibraltar Road.

At approximately 1 p.m., 62-year-old Coupeville resident Janis Erdman, who was driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey minivan, went off onto the shoulder and struck a Washington State Department of Transportation truck that was parked on the side of the highway.

The truck’s driver, 27-year-old Sedro-Woolley resident Jason Stringfield, was standing outside his vehicle. He was struck by his own truck upon impact.

A passenger in the truck, 24-year-old Karen Howard of Mount Vernon, was also injured.

Stringfield, Erdman and Howard were transported to Island Hospital in Anacortes, where they were all treated and released.
