“Volksport is an educational non-profit that promotes healthy lifestyles through non competitive events,” National Volksport President Curt Myron said.

Myron and his wife learned of volksport, which translates to “sport of the people,” 18 years ago while living in Virginia when they happened upon a volksport event at a neighborhood park. Since then, Myron has walked more than 12,500 kilometers in 47 states and 22 countries.

The couple organized the Whidbey Walking VolksFest in conjunction with the town of Coupeville every other year, and are expecting 400 people to attend. Last year 83 percent of the walkers were from outside the county, and 20 percent traveled from another state to the weekend-long event, said Myron.
